Kathy's daughter Camilla arrives home from Amsterdam to launch her debut exhibition in Cowbridge June 2019
Kathy's daughter, Camilla Jane Gittins has been living in Amsterdam for the past 6 years, working for American clothing company, Tommy Hilfiger. She works as a manager in the "Concept Team" and is responsible for all aspects of the creative items, internal visuals and interior design elements for all store concepts internationally and works heavily on the large anchor stores from the beginning to the end of each project.
Alongside her day job Camilla is an artist, working nights and weekends throughout the year from her beloved studio at home.
She graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2009, graduating with a BH (Cons) in Embroidery and then moved to London to pursue a career as a Creative Concept Designer for a British clothing company Jack Wills, designing their windows and shop fronts internationally before being head hunted to join Tommy Hilfiger in Amsterdam.
' I have been living in Amsterdam for almost 6 years now and finally managed to buy my first property just over 2 years ago. I wanted an apartment that was a convenient distance to cycle to work and i needed a second bedroom for my art studio. But with the property market booming over here i couldn't afford a two bedroom apartment. However, i fell in love with a rather neglected third floor corner apartment, dominated by five large picture windows, which needed total renovation, it was perfect. So i designed a large industrial factory window partition which created a second bedroom, my studio was now born!'
' My apartment is constantly changing and used as one large studio, with art-works spilling out everywhere! i cover the sitting room floor with large sheets of plastic, switch on the music and off i go painting canvases of all shapes and sizes, i just love it and am never happier than painting in my sunlit dream space! '
Camilla have a following on Instagram and has sold quite a few paintings from various private commissions over the past four years. She has painted several collections for Tommy Hilfiger stores globally, Regent Street London, Neice, Paris, Berlin, Munich, Zurich, to mention but a few in Europe plus further afield in China, Peru and the USA.
She mainly paints in acrylic, spray paint, pastels, graffiti and mostly on cotton canvases.
' My inspiration has evolved from the extensive travelling i have been so fortunate to have done with work and coupled with the simplicity of my home which is filled with amazing and beautiful eclectic art, objects, furniture, soft furnishings and plants all lovingly collected during my frequent visits to European art fairs, flea markets and outlets saucing furniture and items to fit-out Tommy Hilfiger stores internationally. I have visited so many wonderful places and gradually amassed an amazing collection for myself too! '
